Nella Contea di Giomici al confine del Ducato d’Urbino a circa 2 km. dal Borgo di Giomici, su una dolce zona collinare, al centro di una vasta superficie di terreno agricolo (30 ettari), è presente un antico fabbricato in pietra che risale alla fine del 1700.

Questo grande fabbricato, tipico del1’architettura rurale umbra, è stato costruito inglobando un‘antica torre di avvistamento collocata a guardia dell’antica strada medievale che provenendo da Assisi portava a Gubbio lungo il fiume Chiascio. S. Francesco ha percorso più volte questo itinerario. Questo complesso, negli ultimi 300 anni, è stato più volte ampliato e modificato, ed ha ospitato molte generazioni di coloni della Famiglia Vagni, che hanno vissuto una vita patriarcale coltivando i campi, le viti e gli olivi ed allevando bestiame in quello che era considerato il più ricco podere di Giomici.

Il nome dell’Agriturismo “CASAFUMATA” è legato ad una vecchia famiglia di coloni che per circa 100 anni ha lavorato e vissuto  sullo stesso podere praticamente dandogli il proprio nome.

A seguito della creazione de1l’invaso artificiale sul fiume Chiascio (il più grande dell’Italia Centrale con un capacità di 220 mi1ioni di metri cubi d’acqua) il detto fabbricato, circondato da querce secolari, sovrasta ora il grande bacino nei pressi della diga di sbarramento, in posizione panoramica e silenziosa con ampie zone di giardino privato e con una piccola ed antica cappella dedicata alla Madonna del Lago.

Casafumata fa parte delle proprietà della famiglia Vagni da oltre 200 anni.

The hamlet of Giomici is found in the earldom of Giomici just 2 kilometres from the border with the Duchy of Urbino. An ancient stone building thet dates from the 1700s can be seen in the centre of a vast hilly agricultural area.

This large building, in typical Umbrian rural architecture, was built to incorporate an ancient watch tower and is found on the medieval road that originates from Assisi and makes its way to Gubbio along the river Chiascio. St. Francis used this rout many times.

            In the last 300 years the group of buildings has been enlarged and modified several times and has been home to many generation of farmers of the Vagni family. They lived a patriarchal life cultivating the fields, the grapevines and olives raising livestock in what was considered the richest farm in the area.

            The name of the agriturismo Casafumata is tied to an old family of farmers who lived and worked there uninterruptedly for about 100 years.

            Following the creation of central Italy’s largest artificial lake on the river Chiascio (with a capacity of 220 million cubic metres of water) the afore mentioned building, surrounded by centuries-old oaks, now overlooks the dam. Enjoying panoramic views in a peaceful situation with a large private garden, there is also and old chapel dedicated to the Madonna of the lake. Casafumata has been in the Vagni family for more than 200 years.
